PTI names Qaiser for NA speaker, Sarwar as Punjab governor
Rumours of PTI-PPP secret deal on NA speaker surface
As the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) nominated Asad Qaiser it’s candidate for the speaker of national assembly (NA) rumours also surfaced about a secret deal between the majority winning party and Pakistan people’s party (PPP) on NA speaker.
Sources said that under this deal the PPP candidate Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah would be elected win the election of speaker.
However one of the senior leader of PTI rejected this rumour and said the party had taken decision after thorough deliberations and the PTI chief Imran Khan with constitutional help from party leadership had nominated the person who could run the national assembly in the best way possible.
The PTI leader added that all the allies were also taken on board with the nomination of and the allies affirmed to be present in the lower house of the parliament on the election day.
He further said that a secret deal with PPP on this important slot was of no use as the party and allies had enough numbers to elect their own candidates.
Moreover, the incumbent NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq would conduct the voting for new speaker and deputy speaker under article of 91 of the Constitution and he will announce the schedule of election for speaker and deputy speaker on August 13, nomination papers will be received on 15th and election will be held on August 16, sources in NA told Daily Morning Mail.
Moreover, PTI vice president Shah Mahmood Qureshi told reporters on Friday that the party had nominated party leader Asad Qaiser as NA speaker and Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar as governor of Punjab.
“We have clear majority in Punjab and we are in a position to form government in the province,” the PTI VP said.
Qaiser, has served as speaker of KP assembly, brings a wealth of experience with him and enjoys an admirable relationship with all political parties, Qureshi said.
Asad Qaiser won PK-44 Swabi 2 constituency on the PTI’s ticket with 31,658 votes, defeating ANP’s Gul Zamin Shah during the July 25 general election.
Qaiser belongs to the Swabi district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and graduated from the University of Peshawar before moving on to a career in education. He joined the PTI in 1996, prior to which he was a member of the Jamaat-i-Islami’s student wing. In the PTI he was served as the district president of Swabi and provincial president of the party.
Chaudhry Sarwar, who has served as Punjab governor in the past, was recently quoted as saying that he was not interested in the post.
Senator Chaudhry Sarwar was born and raised in Pakistan, later moving to Scotland in the 1970s. He has served as a former member of the British Parliament. In 2013, he left Britain and returned to Pakistan joining the PML-N and being appointed Governor Punjab. Sarwar left the PML-N over difference and joined the PTI in 2015. Earlier this year he was appointed to the Senate of Pakistan on a general seat from Punjab.
Qureshi added that PTI chairman Imran Khan will announce the party’s candidate for the post of Punjab chief minister.
Earlier today, PTI senator Faisal Javed announced Imran Khan will take the oath as prime minister on August 18.
