After closing the probe into the multi-billion corruption scam, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has directed the housing ministry to allot plots to the investors in the Bhara Kahu Housing Scheme, sources told Daily Morning Mail on Tuesday.
The directives came after a meeting preside over by NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal decided to close the investigation in the corruption scam.
The former minister for housing and NAB chairman both belonged to Quetta. To save the former housing minister, the NAB chief has closed the investigation into the corruption scam by taking support of a court decision. The NAB officials have refused to give the verdict on the issue.
According to the details, NAB had probed the scam of Rs20 billion instead of catching the big fish allegedly involved in the corruption. The anti-graft body’s executive board had also directed the ministry to sell one canal plot for Rs2.7 million to a private housing society and other investors.
The corruption allegations were also discussed in the Parliament and at the meetings of the Senate standing committee. The allegations were leveled against the former Minister for Housing Senator Rehmatullah Kakar and others belonging to the Jamiat Ulema-e Islam-F.
The Bara Kahu Housing Scheme was launched to provide subsidiary plots to the government employees. For the land purchase, an agreement was signed with a private housing society.
Sources said that it was one of the biggest financial scam of the former president Pervez Musharraf’s government tenure. It was alleged that the private housing society sold the land to the government at a high cost whereas the society paid a meager sum to the land owners.
The auditor general had also alleged in his report that the land was purchased after paying a heavy amount. The Public Accounts Committee’s sub-committee had also recommended purchasing one canal land for Rs900,000. The sources further said that the NAB was playing the role of a facilitator between the government and the private housing society.
